Middle school students
present at youth leadership summit
On
Thursday, March 27, three Cohoes Middle School eighth-graders
presented at Russell Sage College's Sixth Annual Youth
Leadership Summit, sponsored by the Academy for Character
Education at the Sage College in Troy.
(Look for a video below!)
The students, Joe Lawson, McKenna Angus, and
Alex O'Rourke, gave a presentation on "how P.B.I.S. has
influenced my character." P.B.I.S. (Positive Behavioral
Interventions and Supports) is a school-wide program designed to
encourage and support students' positive behavior.
In addition to reviewing CMS' school-wide and
classroom-based activities related to P.B.I.S., the students
shared the ways P.B.I.S. has influenced their personal growth
and success. The audience of students and adults from
surrounding school districts appreciated Joe, McKenna and Alex's
personal stories and insight.
The eighth-grade students also got to meet
student leaders from other school districts, and hear what
Character Education activities are happening at other middle and
high schools. It was a great opportunity for the students to
demonstrate their personal character and leadership skills.
