The focus of the Cohoes City School District's
Counseling Department is to provide a Developmental School
Counseling Program consisting of a comprehensive plan of
academic, career, and personal development. The program is an
essential part of the total school program and supports the
goals established for all students.
Through a series of sequential and developmental
activities, the counselor ensures that he/she is meaningfully
involved with each student during each year of the secondary
school experience. In this way the student is in the best
position to learn, plan, and make positive decisions with the
ongoing support and assistance of a school counselor.
A team approach is necessary for the overall
success of a comprehensive, developmental program that requires
the involvement of parents, staff members, and community
organizations.
A number of scholarship
opportunities are available to qualified students in the Class
of 2009!
Please take a moment to review the following
scholarships that will be awarded this spring to selected
Juniors. If you are interested in attending these institutions
and believe that you should be nominated for one or more of
these scholarships, please come to guidance and sign-up for
consideration. The deadline to sign-up for consideration will be
on Friday, April 25. For more information,

100 sophomore students attended
a Career Exploration Day!
On
Nov. 1 the counseling department brought 100 tenth-grade
students on a field trip to Hudson Valley Community College
where a Career Exploration Day was hosted. A diverse selection
of more than 130 careers were represented, including surgeons,
architects,
nurses, CEOs, journalists, coaches, actors, graphic designers
and more.
The students had the opportunity to talk to
professionals and gain first-hand knowledge and a
realistic
perspective about the degrees, skills and the personal
attributes required for their careers of interest. This program
benefits both decided students, by helping them make their
college choices, and undecided students, by helping them find
their career direction.
