College Prep Camp

Any student interested in getting a jump start on COLLEGE ADMISSIONS is invited to participate in a FREE College Prep Camp to be held at Cohoes High School, July 13-July 16 from 10 a.m. - 12 noon. Develop and research your potential list of schools, revise and/or update your resume and gather information from various experts. In addition, Kaplan Test Prep will provide SAT/ACT strategies and tips. Please contact the high school counseling office at 237-1510 to register.

Student raise common 'cents' for Pennies for Peace

Photo of students.Cohoes High School students, along with other school districts around the world, have joined hands in support of Pennies for Peace--a program of Central Asia Institute (CAI) which was founded by Greg Mortenseon the author of the #1 New York Times best seller, Three Cups of Team. CAI is a nonprofit organization that promotes and provides community-based education and literacy programs, especially for girls in remote mountain regions of Central Asia. Founded in 1996, CAI has built, to date, nearly 100 schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan, which serve more than 28,000 students—more than 14,000 of whom are girls. MORE

2009 Career Pathways Summer Institute

From robots to wind turbines, crime scenes to biotechnology, solar energy to nanotechnology, to science and green energy camps for girls: lots of choices await area teens through a new series of summer camps being offered by the Greater Capital Region Career Pathways Consortium. This partnership of several area colleges and BOCES is offering eight different Career Pathways Summer Institutes that explore emerging careers in our region for students entering 9th grade or older, tuition-free, in July and August. Students participate in Global Youth Awareness Day

Photo of students cleaning.On Friday, April 24, Cohoes eighth graders and the senior class worked together at approximately 20 different sites throughout the city to perform community service in recognition of Global Youth Awareness Day. Students cleaned and raked parks, worked with senior citizens and elementary students, and assisted business owners with various clean up tasks throughout the morning. In all, more than 300 students and 35 staff from the two schools volunteered to work on this project. Following the morning work, students and staff gathered at Cohoes Middle school for a BBQ lunch and team building activities. MORE

Congratulations Mrs. Giller

Photo of Mrs. Giller and her award.Mrs. Giller is the recipient of the Judith A. Martens Secretarial Award of Excellence. The award, which is presented by the New York State Athletic Administration Association, states: "In its quest to increase the quality of athletics in New York, the NYS Athletic Administrators Association recognizes Margaret Giller in 2009 in appreciation for the extra effort to athletics."

Swine Influenza Information

With recent news attention on swine flu, the district is providing information as a resource for parents and community members seeking facts and information about this strain of the flu virus.

Parents are reminded that NO children with flu-like symptoms should come to school, and that the best way to prevent the spread of this and other regular seasonal types of flu is to follow basic hygiene rules—such as washing your hand frequently with soap and hot water and using a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Greg Mollnow named to Scholar All-State Football Team

Senior caption of the Cohoes High School varsity football team Greg Mollnow was named to the 2008 Scholar All-State Football Team by the members of the New York State High School Football Coaches Association.

The award symbolizes a true student athlete who has been a significant contributor to his team, while excelling academically and exhibiting good citizenship. MORE

To showcase student work, Cohoes High School students are creating an anthology of art, creative writing, photography and graphic design.

Recently, the artwork that will be featured on the cover was displayed in the CHS lobby. The artwork is tapestry pieces that lend a name to the anthology, "Tapestry."

 

 

CHS and CMS students participated Teens for Jeans

Cohoes High School and Middle School students donated more than 220 pairs of jeans recently to a good cause - teen homelessness. Student jeans were collected by Aeropostale and the organization Do Something and donated to local shelters.

Cohoes seniors given state physical education awards
