Project would lead students
through the 21st century
Cohoes voters will go to the polls on Tuesday,
June 24, to decide on a $22.5 million building project that, if
approved, would give Cohoes schools additional and modern
educational space, designed to lead students through the 21st
century.
Financing for the project would come from a combination of state
building aid, EXCEL (Expanding Our Children's Education and
Learning) aid and local funds. Currently, the combination of
state building aid EXCEL aid is expected to cover about 97
percent of the
projects' costs. The district would be responsible for paying
about 3 percent of the project, or approximately $700,000. The expected tax impact
for homeowners with a property assessed at $100,000 would be
about $11 a year beginning in the 2011-2012 school year.
"The improvements we hope to make, with voter support, would not
only benefit students, but also the greater community," said
Assistant Superintendent for Business & Operations Robert K.
Libby. "This project would bolster student learning and
recreation while alleviating space problems and making room for
anticipated growth in the district."
