VOTER INFORMATION

 

Residents of the Cohoes City School District can vote in the Cohoes Board of Education elections and on the annual school district budget, held on the third Tuesday in May.  The following are voter registration requirements:

  • A United States citizen

  • Age 18 or older

  • A district resident for at least 30 days

  • Registered to vote in the general elections or with the school district

On May 15, 2012, voters in Cohoes will elect two (2) members to the Board of Education and vote on the proposed 2012-13 school district budget.

Petitions for Board of Education Candidates Nominees must have lived in the City School District of Cohoes for at least one year prior to Election Day (5/15/12). One hundred petition signatures are required for candidacy.

Petition packets for running for the Cohoes Board of Education may be obtained in the office of the District Clerk - 3rd Floor Board of Education Office, Cohoes Middle School, 7 Bevan Street. They must be returned to the District Clerk before the petition deadline.		 Deadline for petitions: Wednesday, April 25, 2012 - no later than 5 p.m.
     
Candidate Expenditure Statements A candidate for the Board of Education who spends $500 or less must file a sworn statement with the District Clerk declaring so. No other campaign expenditure statement is required.

For candidates with expenditures of more than $500, a sworn statement must be filed with the District Clerk and the Commissioner of Education, itemizing contributions and expenditures. Three separate statements need to be filed by the deadlines noted.		 Expenditure Report Dates:
April 16, 2012 - no later than 5 p.m.
May 10, 2012 - no later than 5 p.m.
June 4, 2012 - no later than 5 p.m.
     
Voter Registration Registration for all qualified voters will take place at one of the city's three elementary schools during normal school hours.

Absentee Ballot Applications Applications to receive absentee ballots may be obtained from the District Clerk from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., beginning April 1, 2012. An application can be downloaded here. Applications must be received by:
May 8, 2012 (to receive by mail)
May 14, 2012 (to pick up ballot)
     
Absentee Voting All COMPLETED absentee ballots must be returned to the District Clerk no later than 5 p.m. on May 15, 2012. Tuesday, May 15, 2012 - no later than 5 p.m.
     
Election Day/Budget Vote The Board of Election and Budget Vote will be held from 12 noon to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Tuesday, May 15, 2012
