Calling all future kindergarteners!
The Cohoes City School District will be
conducting its annual kindergarten registration for all children
who turn five years old on or before Dec. 1, 2010.
Registration is done by appointment only at the
Cohoes Middle School Registration office (1st floor). Please
call Mrs. Smith at 237-4131, Ext. 2299 to make a registration
appointment for your child. If your child is currently in the
UPK program, you do not need to register him or her for
kindergarten.

Turner rep brings construction to life for students
Students
in Kate Lamica's class have been curiously watching the addition
being built outside of their windows for months, wondering what
each of the pieces of equipment were and what each beam was
framing. One student had even been drawing a scaled diagram of the
addition based on what he could see from his seat in the
classroom.

Poetry via the airwaves
Second
graders at Abram Lansing got a poetry lesson via the computer
recently.
Students in Mrs. Christina Carriola's and Miss Leora Flax's
second-grade class used the video communication program Skype to
connect with Shoshauna Flax, a Boston-based children's poet, who
also happens to be Miss Flax's sister.

Fourth graders dance a story
A
fourth-grade class at Abram Lansing will be participating in
"Stories that Dance" and telling a story they wrote themselves
through the Stories That Dance program.
Maryann DeCarr's classes have participated in the program, which
gives students to write, choreograph and perform their own
production, in the past. The program is a partnership between
Proctors and the Northeast Ballet Company.

Abram Lansing students bring valentines to Eddy residents
February
8, 2010 – Abram Lansing Elementary School students brought some
Valentine’s Day cheer to residents of The Eddy on Feb. 8.
The students, who are in Kate Lamica's class, brought valentines
they had made for residents, and worked on a craft project with
them.

Students learn about different cultures through dance
Third-grade
students at Abram Lansing Elementary School, with the help of
professional instructors from eba, are learning dances from
different cultures.
The dance instruction, made possible through a grant from the New
York State Association of Arts Educators, connects
what the students are learning in their social studies classes to
movement.

caroling through the snow…!
Abram Lansing Elementary School students brought a little holiday
cheer to residents of The Eddy by signing holiday carols.
The fourth-grade classes at the school walked to The Eddy on
Monday, Dec. 21, and traveled through various buildings singing!
